M1_1 Cultural identity and values

Short description of activity

The first section of the part of the Intercultural communication module focuses on three  activities:

Activity
In national groups participants do a think-pair-share activity on cultural identity and values which sensitizes them how they have been culturally shaped.

Scenario
This scenario encourages participants to think about the assumptions they make about other cultures using a schools partnerships situation

Video (from 3.02 to 6.40)
In this clip the author Chimamanda Achiche talks about the danger of having a “single story” about people and the assumptions that come from that.

Main learning outcomes

Participants
•    Are willing and able to reflect on their own experience, values, practice and how identity relates to national, European and global citizenship

The activity at the start of the session works best with groups containing people of different nationalities
